5 Little-Known Reasons to Visit the Writing Center
There are only 6 weeks left in the semester, and you probably have one or two papers left to write. Or maybe you’re in the middle of one, and you’re trying to make it the best it can be.
Enter the MC Writing Center.
As in, the MC Writing Center can help you. But also, in the sense that you should enter that beautiful glass door quite literally. If you’re debating if it is worth it to visit the writing center this week, it may be helpful to consider the following:
1. 30-Minute Appointments
Short, quick, and to-the-point, even a 30-minute appointment is better than no appointment. The speed of these appointments make them easy to fit into even the tightest schedule! Our tutors will work with you to make sure you maximize your time and focus on what is most important in each session. Read this to figure out what length appointment is right for your next paper!
2. Brainstorming Sessions with Chance the Avocado
Our gigantic whiteboards and whiteboard table will allow you and your tutor (or just you) to sketch out plans for your papers. Maybe you need to write out a detailed outline or rearrange paragraphs. We’ve got you covered with a plethora of colored markers!
3. Computers
I couldn’t write a post about the writing center’s many assets without mentioning our wall of computers, available to any student who checks in with our receptionist, even if they haven’t made an appointment with a tutor. Since the goal of the writing center is to help you succeed academically, we welcome anyone experiencing technical difficulties or any who just want a focused environment for writing.
4. Formatting Guides
While your favorite tutor is a wonderful resource for formatting tips, it would be impossible for each of us to fully grasp every detail of every paper format. That’s why the writing center is stocked with APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, and other format guides, some of which you can take with you to help you write your next paper.
5. Candy!!!
If you need a pick-me-up treat, we’ve got the best chocolate, Dum Dums, and Lifesavers on the planet. Okay, they may be regular pieces of candy, but they come with a smile from the receptionist and many friendly faces to help you with your assignments.
