Goodbye Grads, Pt.2

It's always a little sad having to say goodbye to some of our Writing Center family. All of our graduating tutors are supremely talented individuals, and we are incredibly appreciative for their time and service.

(In case you missed it, this post is a continuation of our farewell address to some of our graduate tutors. You can check out the first post here!)

1. Matt Ansley

“As both a tutor and a receptionist, the Writing Center had essentially become my second home! The Writing Center was not just a workplace. It was a community of friends that presented me with relationships that will be everlasting.”

Matt is currently attending Auburn University in pursuit of his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

2. Katie Anne Collins

"I thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative environment the Writing Center creates. Both as a tutor and a writer, I always knew I could reach out to someone which sharpened my writing skills as well as the skills of those I was able to help."

Katie Anne is engaged and will be attending MC Law School in the fall.

3. Sarah Moore

"For me, the Writing Center is where I found a core group of people that I cared about and that cared about me at Mississippi College. Between fellow students and the professors associated with it, the Writing Center always provided a safe space for myself and other students which is something I value greatly. Through it I was exposed to many new cultures and made new friends from around the world. Working in the Writing Center was truly one of the highlights of my time at Mississippi College."

Sarah's plans include a year of studying in Germany, followed by graduate studies in rhetoric and composition (in part due to some work and research she participated in with the aid of the Writing Center!) Eventually, her goal is to teach either English or history at the college level.

4. Joel Purvis

"Working at the Writing Center has been one of the best decisions I've made at Mississippi College. I've enjoyed working with a community of tutors who strive to equip and encourage writers so they can express their thoughts effectively."

Joel will be pursuing a Master's of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall.

5. Maggie Rapier

"I loved the friendships and exposure to a diverse array of people most of all about the Writing Center. I got to meet men and women from all around the world who came with incredible stories about their lives and home countries and once, on a memorable occasion, some spicy candy. The Writing Center was a safe haven, and I loved spending the majority of my last year at MC with it."

Maggie isn't entirely sure what she'll be doing now that she's headed to France for her final semester, but one thing is for certain: wherever she ends up, Maggie will definitely be writing! Eventually she'd love to open up an independent bookstore/cafe where she can host "super fun/nerdy events."

6. Andrew Rock

"I enjoyed the Writing Center because it provided an opportunity to meet people from around the world."

Andrew will be attending law school at the University of Mississippi.

7. Abdullah Tanveer

Abdullah returned to his home country, Pakistan, after graduating from MC with a degree in Accounting. He is ready to work as an accountant.

We here at the Writing Center would like to also thank Abdullah for the time and talent that he contributed to the Writing Center!
